Accessibility reports agencies can put on a retainer
Clients are not buying a widget. They are buying accessibility reports they can forward without inheriting your legal risk.
A retainer accessibility report is the document you send every month (or week) for sites you already manage. Same scanner, new date, client name on the cover, and a history you can point at when something regresses. It is how agencies turn “we should look at a11y” into a line item.
One-off tools (WAVE, Lighthouse, a free teaser scan) do the first conversation. They do not replace the recurring pack.
The artifact that survives an invoice review is dated and named. Last quarter’s screenshot deck is not.
What clients actually buy
They are not buying a widget. They are buying:
- A named PDF they can forward to their own customer or legal contact
- Proof you looked after launch, not only at kickoff
- A list a developer can work in the CMS or the repo
Seyfarth counted 3,117 federal website accessibility lawsuits in 2025, up 27% from 2024 (ADA Title III report). Clients who got a scare want a repeating record, not a one-hour WAVE sitting you cannot reproduce.
That maps to Complience.app’s Clients, white-label, and schedule features. Details: white-label accessibility reports and pricing.
In practice, “Prepared for” on the cover is the whole white-label sale. The engine is still axe-core. The invoice is for the pack and the next one.
Packaging without fake trust
Do not invent “used by 400 agencies.” Show the sample report. Run their URL through the free checker. Keep the legal disclaimer first in the FAQ.
After the overlay backlash, honesty is the differentiator cheaper ADA checkers skip. The FTC ordered accessiBe to pay $1 million over allegedly deceptive WCAG-compliance claims (final order, 22 April 2025). Agencies that repeat “we’ll make you compliant” are selling the claim the Commission just fined.
What actually works is selling monitoring, evidence, and a process. Certification is a different product, usually with specialists and a written methodology beyond automation.
The W3C’s Understanding Conformance page is the citation to put in the proposal. Automated checking is a method. It is not a badge.
Operating the retainer
Add the site, attach the client, pick weekly or monthly, send the PDF on demand. If the score drops, the alert is the reason you email before they notice. Invite teammates so the account manager is not the only login.
The WebAIM Million found detectable WCAG 2 failures on 95.9% of top home pages in 2026, and the average page carried 56.1 detected errors. Sites regress. Theme updates happen on a Thursday. A retainer that only scanned at kickoff is a care plan in name only.
Start on Standard if they have one site. Upgrade when you add clients. That sentence belongs next to pricing, not as a dark pattern.
Questions
- What is a white-label accessibility report?
- A PDF that can carry your logo and a “Prepared for” client line instead of only the scanner’s brand. On Complience.app that packaging is a Pro/Ultra entitlement, computed on the server.
- Can I sell this as ADA certification?
- No. Sell monitoring, evidence, and a process. Certification and legal opinions are a different product, usually involving specialists and a written methodology beyond automation.
